We are delighted to announce that Age Concern Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan’s - Journeys Project won the Jubilee People’s Millions bonus award. A surprise visit from ITV and the Big Lottery took place at our Healthy Wealthy Wise project in Ely to tell staff and volunteers they had won the most votes of all the runners up.
This means we can now run our Journeys – Living Links with the Past project.
The project will start in September and will bring young people into care homes to record the Life Stories of residents.
“It is absolutely Fantastic News” said Teresa Burris Operational Manager for Age Concern.
“We have worked on intergenerational projects in the past and it is really moving to see how the generations connect and get so much out of being together.
We want to say a big thank you to the hundreds of supporters who voted and spread the word and to the Big Lottery and ITV for making it possible”.
Alison Haden who appeared in the ITV film to promote the project was the inspiration behind putting the project proposal forward. Alison promotes and delivers training for staff and volunteers to lead activities in care homes. Alison said “Everybody has a book inside them and this project will help capture those books. We know that it will bring a lot of enjoyment to the young people, residents and their family and friends.
