Such a person who needed help is Olive, a 74 year old, living alone since the death of her sister a couple of years ago. The sister dealt with all household affairs and Olive has been unable to cope with her personal care or running the home. The Age Concern case worker visited on several occasions since Olive came out of hospital.

Olive’s home was dirty and unkempt and until a thorough deep clean was carried out support services were not able to offer support. The cost of the deep clean was £750.

The case worker managed to gain Olive’s confidence and through this has been able to address mountains of un-opened mail. Olive appeared unaware of the amount of unpaid utilities and other bills and demands from debt agencies.

The Age Concern case worker then carried out a thorough assessment and made contact with all agencies to make arrangements to address the debt. The arrangements are working well and the debt problem will be resolved.

Working with local agencies Age Concern was able to contribute £200 from the funds to match other funds raised through other charitable source.

Olive’s home is now clean, she has her debt under control and is now being encouraged to join the local associations and clubs in her area.
