Gabalfa Good Neighbours were delighted to win the Counsel and Care Befriending and Support Services Award. Volunteers were offered nomination forms to take to the clients they visit, and whatever some of them wrote worked!! As well as Gabalfa winning the award several other schemes achieved certificates in recognition of the valuable service they provide. The ceremony was held at the Commonwealth Club, Northumberland Ave, on Thursday September 7th 2006, not far from Trafalgar Square. The key-note speaker was the Rt. Hon Stephen Byers MP and the award was presented by Reeta Chakrabarti, the B.B.C. political journalist. We are often looking for evidence that what we provide through befriending and support is what is needed and this is real proof of its value. Several of the judges said how impressed they had been by the written remarks of the nominees and that they could tell what a volunteer visit meant to the clients. |
